Awareness Exercise

Awareness is having the knowledge of the surroundings, having the ability to feel, to perceive and to be conscious. A couple of weeks ago we learned in Modern class how to feel others walking towards us by we facing with our back away from them and also learning how to sense our partner by concentrating on time and space. I think that helps in the way we dance with partners, in groups or even solos. It is wonderful to be able to have a connection with dance mates because the cast becomes unite as one and that is what the audience enjoy most. Dancing as a soloist I think is a little bit harder to find the connection because is only you giving and leaving everything on stage. Since is only a single dancer, he/she has to have the connection with their surroundings to be able to send the positive vibe to the audience.  The audience always wants unison and clearness in the movements.
This exercise helped me comprehend as a dancer that is not only dancing with stray legs, erect torso, and feet pointed but dancing with whole body and heart. I’ve learned to dance mostly with my soul but of course always thinking about the technique in the back of my mind. The public wants to see emotions and technique, and if one of those lack the dance becomes not enjoyable.  Dancing is more then moving through space, is the most interesting art I have discovered and I am glad it has become a part of me.
